No one would ever know what had happened. He was a criminal, and he wasn’t going to be convicted.
Not unless Laine did something about it.
But Laine knew she could never tell anyone. There would be too many questions—where had she been, why had she been there, why didn’t she stop him. She would be under constant scrutiny.
And all she really wanted to do now was disappear.
